It goes without saying that safety must be at the heart of our business. We are renowned for our focus and achievement in safety, and our ‘Safety from the Ground Up’ programme is well known across our industry. We will continue to place ourselves at the frontier of thinking and delivery around safety techniques inside and outside of our business, as demonstrated by our multiple safety award winning vehicle fleet. Our customers continue to demand innovation, and our innovation in products and services that focus on safety and sustainability, from low carbon footprint techniques through biofuels, to on-site awareness campaigns and training in dust control will be at the heart of our competitive advantage.

Thinking like our customers
We focus on all of our customer segments from our largest Strategic customers to our thousands of Regional customers, and we aim to think like them to enable us to deliver our products and services in a way that meets their needs. We collaborate and form close and long-standing relationships with our Strategic customers to help them deliver large and complex construction and infrastructure projects. For our regional contractors and SMEs, we are focusing on developing channels that make it quick and easy to do business with us, ensuring we deliver products to them in a way that they prefer.
None of our competitors can offer everything from a hand drill, to some of the most specialist and advanced equipment the world, and then provide complementary support services (such as safety, training and security) around those products, and therefore we have a unique opportunity in our market space.
Being the most efficient at everything we do
Efficiency starts with having an optimised property network that operates through optimised logistics, ensuring we have the right level of products in the right place at the right time to satisfy our customers’ needs. In FY15 we completed our Network Optimisation Programme, including the establishment of our brand new National Distribution Centre in Tamworth, 8 new Multi-Service Centres and 38 Superstores.
We also have a logistics infrastructure that enables us to move our assets around that network much more effectively. At the same time we need to ensure we continue to innovate within our asset base so that we bring the best new products that deliver the most value to our customers.
Being preferred by our customers through delivering service excellence
Perfect delivery is the measure we use to identify our levels of service excellence. We need to be able to ensure on time, every time, right quality, right price equipment, wherever and whenever our customers require it. This delivery model must be backed up by the best and easiest channels to market, for customers to order, track fulfilment and return equipment. Back office processing of invoices, services queries and performance reporting needs to be of the highest quality, and we need to be able to deliver on-demand support as and when required.
This is fundamental to our customer service experience and will be achieved through state-of-the-art systems, lean processes and an internal culture of customer first.
Becoming an employer of choice, attracting and retaining the best people
All organisations are dependent upon their people - we are no different. We want to attract, retain and develop the best individuals with the aim of becoming an employer of choice. We have enhanced employee benefits through the introduction of pensions, life cover and other benefits. We have introduced a People Charter to show our commitment to, and our minimum expectations of employees, as well as what employees can expect to receive whilst working at Speedy.
